Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 5, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how the Jumpstart Newtab and Jumpstart Search browser extensions (together, the "Extensions") and the website jumpstarthome.com (the "Site") handle your information. Our guiding principle is simple: we collect as little as possible, and what little exists stays on your device.
1. Information we do not collect
The Extensions do not collect, transmit, sell or share:
- Your browsing history or the pages you visit
- Your search queries
- Personally identifiable information (name, email, address)
- Login credentials or form data
Neither Extension requires an account, and neither contains analytics or advertising trackers.
2. Jumpstart Newtab
- Settings & preferences. Your dashboard configuration
(theme, enabled modules, custom quick links, focus-list items, game high
scores) is stored locally in your browser using the
chrome.storageAPI. It never leaves your device, except where your browser's own sync feature (if you enable it) syncs extension data across your devices through your Google account. - Weather (optional). If you enable the weather module and grant location permission, your approximate coordinates are sent directly to the Open-Meteo weather service solely to fetch your local forecast. We do not store your location, and no account or API key ties the request to you.
- Top sites (optional). The quick-links module can read your
browser's most-visited sites (via the
topSitespermission) to pre-fill shortcuts. This list is read locally and is never transmitted. - Search. The dashboard's search bar hands your query to the
browser via the
chrome.searchAPI, which uses whatever default search engine your browser is configured with. We never see or log queries.
3. Jumpstart Search
- Jumpstart Search registers a search provider with your browser (via
chrome_settings_overrides). When installed, your default searches are performed by Yahoo Search. - Search queries you type are sent to Yahoo to return results and suggestions, and are handled under the Yahoo Privacy Policy. Jumpstart itself never receives, stores or logs your queries.
- The extension has no user interface, no content scripts and no access to the pages you browse.
4. The website
jumpstarthome.com stores a single value in your browser's local storage — your light/dark theme preference. It sets no tracking cookies. Fonts and animation assets are loaded from public CDNs (Google Fonts, unpkg), which may receive your IP address as part of the standard request, as any web resource does. Our web server keeps standard, short-lived access logs (IP address, requested URL, user agent) for security and operations only.
5. Permissions explained
- storage — save your dashboard settings locally.
- geolocation — optional, only for the weather module.
- topSites — optional, to pre-fill quick links.
- search — to route dashboard searches through your default engine.
- Open-Meteo host access — to fetch the weather forecast.
6. Children's privacy
The Extensions and Site are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any information from them.
7. Data retention & deletion
Because your data lives only in your browser, removing it is entirely in your hands: uninstalling an Extension deletes its locally stored data, and clearing your browser's site data removes the Site's theme preference.
8. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the updated version on this page and revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes to what an Extension does are also reflected in its Chrome Web Store listing.
